Jett Luchanko recently had his OHL season end as the Guelph Storm did not qualify for the playoffs and the Philadelphia Flyers' 2024 first-round pick is now joining the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

There was some speculation that Luchanko could re-join the Flyers for a handful of games at the end of the season after starting the year in the NHL, but reports earlier this week indicated that the young centerman would be headed to the AHL.

The Flyers made that official on Thursday afternoon.

Luchanko is eligible to make his debut as early as this weekend. The Phantoms are on the road in Belleville and Laval this weekend with a matchup in Bridgeport on Wednesday night. The Phantoms then return to the PPL Center next weekend with games against Hershey and Springfield.

The 18-year-old center finished his third OHL season with 56 points (21 goals, 35 assists) in 46 games for the lowly Storm after putting up 74 points (20 goals, 54 assists) last season. He missed some OHL games due to starting the season with the Flyers and then joining Team Canada at the World Junior Championships.

Alex Ciernik was signed to the Phantoms earlier this week and Luchanko will now join him there. It wouldn't be surprising if we see a few more prospects turn pro as their junior or college seasons end as well.

The Phantoms currently sit fifth in the Atlantic Division with a 31-25-5-2 record (.548 point percentage). They're eight points behind Providence in fourth, so that seems out of reach, and just need to worry about Springfield (.532 P%) behind them.

Nevertheless, it'll be exciting to see Luchanko play at the AHL level after impressing in what should be his final OHL season. He's been long penciled in as a middle-six center on the Flyers roster next season after making the team out of training camp this year.
