FORTUNA, Calif. -- A few days ago, Jade Ryan and her family had an electrical fire in their garage that engulfed their house.
They saved their three family dogs but lost their beloved cat, Ninja, and their bird, Kermit. The damages are extensive; half of their home is completely gone. To add to the loss, their insurance company, Safeco, dropped them nine days ago.
Their son, Robbie, is a local athlete and a freshman at Fortuna High School. He also volunteers as a mentor to upcoming younger athletes in the community. In this fire, Robbie lost most of his belongings and his childhood pets.
Jade and Steve are close friends with many people in the community and need the community's help. The money will help them with the immediate clean-up and demolition of their home, replacing clothes, shoes and sports gear, and hiring an attorney to recover from their insurance.
