Speaking during a United Opposition press briefing at the Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka Command Centre in Nairobi on Monday, November 3, 2025, Gachagua said that Ruto's real challenge lies not in the opposition politicians but in the millions of Kenyans dissatisfied with his administration.
"I have heard Ruto bragging that after the demise of Raila, he now has no opponent. I want to inform him we are not his opponent; his opponents are the people of Kenya," Gachagua declared.
He accused the president of celebrating Raila's death and warned him to brace for a people-led revolt at the ballot.
"So, to William Ruto, as much as you seem to celebrate the death of Raila and claim you have no opponents, your opponent is not ourselves here; they are the people of Kenya and they are in millions. Be prepared to face them when the elections come," he stated.
Gachagua further revealed that the opposition had made significant progress toward fronting a single joint candidate to challenge Ruto in 2027. He stressed that the decision was guided by the will of the people who demanded unity to end Ruto's rule.
"We have clear instructions from the people of Kenya to agree on one candidate to face Ruto and end his rule. We want to assure the people that we are determined to abide by their wish and get a single candidate. It will happen, and that will be the president of the nation," he affirmed.
Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, who also attended the presser, expressed confidence that the united opposition would unseat Ruto.
"The United Opposition is the next government in waiting, and we want to tell the current regime that their time is up," Kalonzo said, adding, "We are truly united and ready to consult at every step. After our consultation, Ruto will definitely be a one-term president."
