GRAND FORKS -- The UND football program has enjoyed ideal weather conditions for most of fall camp, with many days in the 60s with overcast skies.
On Thursday's Day 7, though, the Fighting Hawks had to battle some weather adversity for the first time with temperatures in the 80s, with humidity also in the 80s.
The scene: After going full pads on Wednesday, the Hawks returned to shorts on Thursday morning and practiced from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. outdoors at Memorial Field.
Play of the day: Northern Arizona transfer safety Zach Lewis made an athletic interception on the sideline of a Jerry Kaminski deep ball. The play might have been viewed as a free play by Kaminski with a defender jumping offsides to start.
Keep an eye on: Grant Noland. The true freshman from Kearney, Mo., is seeing time with the defensive regulars at cornerback.
Daily dose of QB: Thursday was a good day for San Diego State transfer Javance Tupou'ata-Johnson. He had his most accurate practice among the last few days, hitting his biggest gainer on a deep touchdown pass to tight end Hunter Kallstrom, a redshirt freshman from Wyoming and native of Kerkhoven, Minn.
