Dec. 12 -- Goshen police were called to Arbor Ridge Apartments for a report of a little girl wandering outside in the cold at 4:42 p.m. Wednesday.
A neighbor told police that she recognized the girl as a neighbor and saw her on her security camera outside for several hours. Police arrived and found the girl at another neighbor's apartment. The neighbor said they had also noticed the girl wandering outside and brought her in for food and warmth.
After reuniting the child with her parents, the parents told police there had been a mix-up with the school bus and they'd be contacting the school.
ARRESTS
-- A 50-year-old man was arrested and jailed by Goshen police at 12:02 p.m. Wednesday on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated after police found him slumped inside a vehicle parked outside Chalet Party Shoppe, 2703 Caragana Court.
-- A 45-year-old man was arrested and jailed by Elkhart County deputies at 8:20 a.m. Wednesday on a charge of operating a vehicle as a lifetime traffic violator following a traffic stop near Old U.S. 33 and Nappanee Street in Elkhart.
HIT-AND-RUN
A 65-year-old woman reported to Elkhart County deputies at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday that someone crashed into her vehicle and fled the scene near Adams Street and Park Avenue in Elkhart.
OFFICERS REPORT
-- An Elkhart County Community Corrections officer reported at 12:45 a.m. Wednesday finding a controlled substance in the pocket of a pair of pants being worn by an inmate during an intake search at Work Release, 201 N, College Ave, Goshen.
-- A 25-year-old man reported to Elkhart County deputies on Tuesday that someone he knew received his mail, opened it, and posted it online with a statement defaming him.
SEX CRIME
Goshen police received a report from the Department of Child Services for child exploitation at 7:20 a.m. Wednesday.
BURGLARY
-- Elkhart County deputies received a report that between 4:30 p.m. Tuesday and 6:50 a.m. Wednesday someone stole tools from C&E Excavating in the 53000 block of Adams Street.
-- A 48-year-old man reported to Elkhart County deputies that between 4 p.m. Tuesday and 7:30 a.m. Wednesday someone entered a construction site in the 25000 block of Woodlawn Avenue and stole a trailer belonging to Nuway Construction and a trencher belonging to Jettline Electric.
THEFT
-- Goshen police received a report from the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department regarding identity theft at 9:41 a.m. Wednesday.
-- A 40-year-old man reported to Elkhart County deputies that on Tuesday or Wednesday a truck he was borrowing was stolen from the 57000 block of South Eighth Street in Elkhart.
-- A 58-year-old man reported to Elkhart County deputies at 7:47 a.m. Wednesday that between 8 and 11 a.m. Dec. 7 someone stole items from a home in the 54000 block of C.R. 5 in Elkhart.
FRAUD
-- A 34-year-old man reported fraudulent activity to Goshen police at 8:34 p.m. Wednesday.
-- A 62-year-old man reported to Elkhart County deputies that between 12:53 p.m. Nov. 6 and 11:14 a.m. Dec. 6 fraud was committed.
