The son of the former Mayor of Kendleton is facing his own set of criminal charges in Fort Bend County.
The former Mayor, Darryl Humphrey Sr., was forced out of office after years of legal battles, which resulted in a misdemeanor guilty plea for not fulfilling open records requests.
Now his son, Darryl Humphrey Jr., is charged with multiple felony child sex crimes, accused of perpetrating them at a behavioral health shelter, which state records show is owned by his mother.
On June 6, Fort Bend County court records allege 44-year-old Daryll Humphrey Jr photographed and sexually assaulted two teen girls inside the ADIEE Emergency Shelter. The Shelter is located on Avenue N in Rosenberg.
Rosenburg Police said the crime was discovered after the girls went to a case worker for help.
Eyewitness News asked, but Rosenberg Police, who are investigating the incident, said they don't know Humphrey Jr.'s exact affiliation with the shelter.
ABC13's investigation found the ADIEE Shelter Facebook page lists Humphrey Jr. and his mother, Angela Humphrey, next to the page name, and he is tagged in nearly every post.
On Humphrey Jr.'s personal Facebook page, he lists himself as a co-owner of the shelter.
A Kendleton councilwoman even confirmed Humphrey Jr. had previously gone before the council and represented himself as a co-owner of the shelter.
State records with the comptroller's office name only Angela, so ABC13 decided to call her. Her daughter answered the phone and said her brother hasn't been a co-owner in a long time and is not affiliated with the shelter, but would make no additional comment.
ABC13 also stopped by the address listed as Humphrey Jr.'s home in court records, but despite hearing a man and a woman inside, no one answered the door.
Melissa Lanford, a spokesperson for the Department of Family and Protective Services, said DFPS investigated the shelter and found that, at the time of the alleged incident, 4 children were in the home, all of whom were removed. Lanford said the investigation results were sent to the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC), the state agency that licenses and regulates child care operations in Texas.
Earlier this year, Humphrey Jr was also charged with soliciting a prostitute out of Harris County. That case was dismissed after completing an 8-hour course and 10 hours of community service.
Humphrey will be back on court for his Fort Bend County charges in early December.
