NHL Team Getting Crushed For 'Clean-Cut' Policy

The New York Islanders made one of the more underrated moves of the 2024 NHL offseason on July 1 when they signed forward Anthony Duclair during free agency.

They signed the talented forward to a four-year deal with an AAV of $3.5 million per year.

At the time, Duclair still had dreadlocks, but he had to cut them this week because of general manager Lou Lamoriello's policy. Lamoriello has strict guidelines for players with their looks, including hair and facial hair.

Duclair posted a photo of his dreadlocks cut off to his Instagram story with a sad face this week.

Take a look:

This upset some hockey fans because they don't think the Islanders should have this policy.

"It can be both 'Duclair knew the Islanders' rules when he signed there,' and 'the rules probably deserve an honest conversation in 2024' at the same time," one fan tweeted.

"Look you may not like Lou Lamoriello's weird rules where he thinks he's running the Marine Corps, but we'll see who's laughing when the Islanders finish with 92 points this season," another tweet read.

"Duclair signed with the Islanders knowing he'd have to deal with the whole 'no hair or beards' rule that Lou does. It doesn't make the rule any less stupid," another tweet read.

"That's so sad that DuClair has to cut that great flow after signing with the Islanders. Lou is still living in the 70's and 80's College hockey world," another tweet read.

Duclair joined the Islanders after spending the 2023-24 season with both the San Jose Sharks and Tampa Bay Lightning. He was with the Sharks for 56 games before being dealt to the Lightning.

He finished the season with 24 goals and 42 points.
