Katie Schecter Drops Dynamic Slinky Soul On Nick Bockrath (Cage The Elephant) Co-Write "Hide My Weapons" - Glide Magazine

Since her 2014 debut, Feline, Katie Schecter has been sporadically piecing together a timeless discography held together by unwavering passion and fearless experimentation. The modern rock-fusion scientist has carved out a lane for herself by picking apart her favorite genres and using the remains to craft something she can call her own, as seen in her 2017 psych-rock self-titled project and the soulful, guitar-driven Bad for Business, released in 2020. With only three projects to her name, Schecter has established herself as a force in modern rock, and the artist looks to continue proving herself on her upcoming LP.

Schecter's new LP, Empress, is set to be released on October 17. Recorded in New York City while the artist was pregnant with her daughter, and was produced by Schecter's husband and Cage The Elephant guitarist Nick Bockrath. Empress features the recently released single, "Run River Run," and last year's "Pay It No Mind," two vastly different sides of Schecter's artistry, with the latter leaning towards a country twang and "Run River Run" highlighting the artist's soulful side. Today, Glide proudly premieres "Hide My Weapons," the latest single from Empress, which Schecter co-wrote with Bockrath.

"We are passionate people, husband and wife, best friends, creative collaborators, I'd be far more concerned if we never argued," explains Schecter when asked about collaborating with her husband. If there was ever any disconnect in the two artists' relationship, that strife did not come anywhere near "Hide My Weapons." The eerily beautiful single features an infectious, pulsating drum pattern that is juxtaposed by twinkling piano keys and wistful vocals. There is a lo-fi warmth that coats the vocals, adding a palpable texture to poetic songwriting. "Hide My Weapons" is yet another dimension to Schecter's artistry, marking the third single from Empress that doesn't sound like the others.

We'll find out exactly how sprawling Empress is on October 17, but if the official tracklist covers as much ground as these singles, Schecter may have a masterful piece of rock fusion on her hands. You can listen to the premiere of "Hide My Weapons" below.
