Colts make brutal decision on Anthony Richardson

The Indianapolis Colts are at a bit of a crossroads. The Colts entered last season excited about the potential of young quarterback Anthony Richardson after his first season in the NFL was cut short by injury.

Unfortunately, while Richardson showed flashes of the big play potential that led the Colts to draft him, he struggled mightily with his accuracy and turned the ball over at a high rate.

Richardson's struggles led the Colts to turn to veteran Joe Flacco as the team's starter before Flacco's struggles led the team to ultimately turn back to Richardson.

Now, the Colts have decided how they'll handle their quarterback situation heading into next season, and it doesn't seem as if Richardson has much job security as the starter if any.

"The Indianapolis Colts intend to have an "open" QB competition between Anthony Richardson and a yet-to-be-determined player they intend to acquire this offseason, according to GM Chris Ballard," reported ESPN's Adam Schefter on Wednesday.

Fans reacted to the news on social media.

"Not shocked. If Colts have another bad season, they'll likely clean house. Need to have a viable contingency plan in place for Arich," one fan wrote on Twitter.

"Anthony Richardson was one of the easiest evaluations I've even done -- I put a 5th round grade on him before the Colts selected him and labeled him as a bust after I watched his college film on YouTube in this scouting report," one draft expert added.

"They already know he's a bust. Goodbye, kiddo," another fan added.

It'll be interesting to see if Richardson can salvage his career as a starter in what might be his last crack at it.
