'We Are Not Trading Jimmy Butler' Miami Heat's Pat Riley Addresses Butler Trade Demand Rumors

Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra and the team's longtime GM Pat Riley are speaking out amid the latest rumors that Jimmy Butler wants out of Miami. On Christmas day, ESPN's Shams Charania reported that Butler prefers to be traded by the team after Pat Riley failed to extend his contract this offseason.

According to Charania, Butler is open to be traded to a handful of teams, but the Heat are currently keeping their options open.

Six-time NBA All-Star Jimmy Butler prefers a trade out of Miami ahead of the Feb. 6 deadline, league sources told ESPN.

Butler is open to trade destinations such as the Phoenix Suns, Golden State Warriors, Dallas Mavericks and Houston Rockets, league sources said. Multiple teams have called the Heat to express interest in Butler in the past two weeks, but Miami has not shown urgency in talks as the franchise monitors the first half of the season, those sources said.

On Thursday afternoon, Spoelstra spoke to the media about the trade demand rumors, insisting that he wants the star to stay in Miami.

"We want Jimmy here. There's no if and or Buts about it. The more any of us talk about it, the more it fuel it gets. It's just really unfortunate that it continues to build momentum"

Riley also told reporters that he was refusing to trade the Heat star amid the recent speculation.

"We usually don't comment on rumors, but all this speculation has become a distraction to the team and is not fair to the players and coaches. Therefore we will make it clear: We are not trading Jimmy Butler."
