Caitlin Clark Reacts to Wild Chiefs Block Field Goal Win

WNBA superstar Caitlin Clark reacted to the unexpected Kansas City Chiefs' triumph over the Denver Broncos with a single and enthusiastic post:

Clark is an avowed and very vocal Chiefs fan, telling The Kansas City Star, "That's what I really looked forward to most on Sundays ... we would be watching the Chiefs. And I would be upset if they lost and I still am. Like every Sunday that's what (is) usually the brightest part of my day is turning on the TV and watching the Chiefs."

Fortunately, Clark did not have to be upset this Sunday. With the game on the line, Broncos kicker Will Lutz lined up for what seemed like a straightforward field goal that would have given Denver a 17-16 victory. However, the Chiefs' defense had other ideas, as they managed to block the kick and secure the win.

The shocking play will allow the Chiefs to remain the only undefeated team in the NFL with a 9-0 record.

The Chief lagged behind the Broncos in the first half, which makes the win by block all that much more thrilling. Denver initially held the lead on Sunday, largely due to two touchdown passes from rookie quarterback Bo Nix in the second quarter. He first connected with wide receiver Devaughn Vele for a 6-yard touchdown, giving the Broncos an early lead. On their next drive, Nix followed up with a deep 32-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Courtland Sutton, extending Denver's advantage.

However, the Chiefs answered with a 2-yard touchdown from tight end Travis Kelce just before halftime, followed by a pair of field goals in the second half to take a 2-point lead. Notably, Travis Kelce's touchdown reception from quarterback Patrick Mahomes tied him with Tony Gonzalez for the most touchdowns in Chiefs history. The catch marked the 76th touchdown of Kelce's NFL career.

Thanks to that crucial block, the Chiefs' undefeated streak remains intact. With their 16-14 victory, the Chiefs have now won 15 consecutive games dating back to their Super Bowl run last season. They've also won nine straight games after trailing by seven or more points. However, only two teams in NFL history have ever finished an undefeated season, so it would be a significant stretch to expect Kansas City to become the third.

Next, the Chiefs will take on the Buffalo Bills on November 17, 2024.
