Waterloo Region may have made it through the worst of its most recent winter snowstorm, but with the forecast still calling for another 5 to 10 centimetres before Sunday morning and snow events still in place, it's not out of the woods quite yet.
The region already saw well over 30 cm of snow through Thursday evening and across the day Friday, with Environment Canada Meteorologist Rob Kuhn saying 33 cm had fallen at Kitchener's Stanley Park by the time 2:00 p.m. rolled around on Friday.
"The lake effect snow machine is starting to taper off as we go through this morning, but we will still have some light snow showers around Kincardine, Goderich, and even extending into Kitchener, Cambridge, and Waterloo," said 570 Meteorologist Carl Lam. "It is drier for the afternoon, but there is more snow on the way for this evening."
Lam said that anywhere from 5 to 10 cm is expected to fall between Saturday night and Sunday morning, meaning it could still be a bit of a slippery weekend across those regional roadways.
He said there is a bit of good news, though, adding that the snow is expected to be plenty lighter than what was seen throughout the region as it wrapped up the work week.
"The snow that's headed our way tonight is not lake effect snow, so we're not expecting those really intense and narrow snow squalls," Lam stated. "This is actually synoptic snow, or what we call system-wide snow. This means everybody will get a shot of snowfall accumulation."
One consistency that Lam said would remain throughout the weekend, carrying over from Thursday and Friday, is those gusting winds. He mentioned that the blowing snow will still appear sideways at times, with gusts reaching as high as 60 km/h at times.
"It will get quite gusty as we go into Sunday in the morning and afternoon. I think that's when we'll have some of those strong wind gusts between 40 to 60 km/h per hour. Then by tomorrow evening, the cold front rolls through and much colder air is on the way for Sunday night, and the beginning of December."
With that snow still expected in Waterloo Region's forecast this weekend, those snow events are still remaining in place across the region.

It means that on-street parking is banned until at least 11:59 p.m. on Saturday evening, but there is still the chance that those extend through into Sunday as well.
A major reminder to drive safely on those regional roads as crews begin working to clear all the snow from the region's most recent snowstorm. Always leave extra space between vehicles, clear off any snow, and be patient.
Drivers could face fines of up to $100 if they are found in violation of the ongoing ban.
