Yamuna River Will Offer Eco-Friendly Cruises Thanks to a New Project
Delhi is set to elevate eco-tourism along the Yamuna River with a new project introducing electric-solar hybrid cruise boats between Sonia Vihar and Jagatpur. Backed by a ₹20-crore investment, the initiative aims to offer a quieter, cleaner way for 30-40 passengers at a time to explore the river, reducing emissions through solar-powered and electric propulsion. Notably, the boats significantly reduce the ecological impact typically associated with river cruises, allowing tourists to enjoy the Yamuna's natural scenery without contributing to pollution.
To support the service, the Inland Waterways Authority of India has installed two floating jetties at Sonia Vihar and is expanding the nearby infrastructure. Additional amenities -- including parking areas, rest areas, and recreational spaces -- are planned to ensure a smooth, comfortable visitor experience.
