Betty Marilyn  Heikkinen

ISHPEMING, MI-Betty Marilyn Heikkinen, 91, longtime Ishpeming resident and formerly of Republic, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility.

Betty was born in Republic, Michigan, on April 16, 1934, a daughter of the late George Phillip and Hulda Marie (Maki) Heilala. She was a proud 1952 graduate of Republic High School.

Betty was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming and previously belonged to Bethany Lutheran Church in Republic. She was also a member of the Republic Historical Society, reflecting her strong connection to her hometown and its heritage.

A gifted seamstress and talented baker, Betty found joy in creating and giving. Above all, she cherished time spent with her family, who were the center of her life.

She is survived by three daughters: Marie (Clyde) Sellers and Jayne (Bill) Hoffert, both of Medford, OR; and Nancy Blair of Red Springs, NC. Betty was blessed with many grandchildren: Kristen (Jim) Anderson, Kelly Manier, Jessica Pearce, Michael Pearce, Jason(Katie) Sellers, Rick Sellers Christopher Blair, Collin Blair, Connor Blair, and Cassie (Matthew) Rybka; and great-grandchildren: Izzy, Talon, Corey, Andrew(Hailey), Angel, Arianna, Julian, Hannah, Annabelle, Devan, Johnna(Matthew), Oliver, Sophia, Caleb, and Adam. She also leaves behind one great-great-granddaughter, Sherry Lee and one great-great grandson Colton.

Betty is further survived by her special niece Kathy Marietti; special nephews James Marietti and Michael Heikkinen; as well as many other special family members.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ronald Heikkinen; three daughters: Sharon Atkins, Dona Tait, Ruth Ann Smith, son in law Stuart Tait, and son in law Don Blair; her parents; her sister, Ruth Marietti; and grandson, Corey Manier.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Lake Superior Hospice, Life Care, and the Marquette County Medical Care Facility for the compassionate care provided to Betty.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Inurnment will take place at the Republic Township Cemetery.
