WASHINGTON (7News) -- A scheduled appearance from Shakira, set to kick off World Pride festivities in D.C., will no longer happen after complications with bringing her stage from Boston to Nationals Park, stadium officials confirmed to 7News.
WorldPride organizing officials also confirmed the update with 7News.
The internationally known artist was set to headline the World Pride Welcome Ceremony on Saturday, but officials said the tour production could not be transported and set up in time for the event. Gates were set to open at 5:30 p.m., according to the World Pride website.
"I am sad and heartbroken that I will not be able to be in Washington, D.C. with you tomorrow. I hope that I can come back to D.C., as soon as I am able," Shakira wrote in a statement. "Meanwhile, please know that I am eternally thankful for your unconditional support."
Officials said Tickets will be refunded automatically for those purchased through Ticketmaster and the Washington Nationals website.
