Hundreds of millions of plaintiffs' verdicts have gone up in smoke as a result of Armstrong Teasdale's crack appellate team.

The practice, which includes Tom Weaver, Jeff McPherson and former Missouri Supreme Court Judge William Ray Price Jr., has taken on some of the toughest and highest profile cases, winning significant victories and making important law along the way.

Among the numerous examples, they won a ruling in the Court of Appeals Eastern District in 2020 that slashed about half of a $4.69 billion verdict against Johnson & Johnson on claims that its talcum power products caused cancer, though they were unable to get the Supreme Courts of either Missouri or the U.S. to reexamine the entire verdict.

In 2019, the attorneys won a Missouri Supreme Court ruling that plaintiffs can't use the state's joinder rules to establish venue where it otherwise wouldn't exist. The case put a serious crimp in several mass tort cases with out-of-state plaintiffs in St. Louis.

And in 2014, they persuaded the Eastern District to throw out two thirds of a $358.5 million award for several plaintiffs who suffered lead poisoning from a Missouri smelter. Although the court was sympathetic to the plaintiffs, it found a legal error in the jury instructions.
