Durham fire displaces six, causes major damage to apartment building

Crews responded to a fire in Durham on Tuesday night, displacing six people.

Crews responded to a fire in Durham on Tuesday night, displacing six people.

The Durham Fire Department, with a team of 45 personnel, arrived at the scene at 8:51 p.m. on the 3600 block of University Drive.

When they arrived, the first unit saw fire coming from a window on the right side of a three-story apartment building. Firefighters managed to control the fire within 10 minutes.

The first-floor apartment had extensive fire, heat, and smoke damage, while the apartment directly above had minor smoke damage and a broken window.

Nine people living in the building were able to get out safely.

The six displaced individuals included residents from the affected apartment and the one above.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
