The duo's upcoming CHROMA shows will be played solo by Andy Ferguson
Bicep have announced that Matt McBriar will be taking a break from performing after receiving treatment for a rare brain tumour.
In a post shared on Instagram this afternoon (13th August), McBriar explained that he recently underwent surgery to have a non-cancerous tumour removed and is currently in recovery.
"Towards the end of 2023, I got some intense localised headaches matched with a weird fatigue that felt new," he explained in the statement, which were followed by some blood tests in the spring of 2024.
The results came back "indicating that something was wrong", he continued, and after a further MRI scan, "they told me they had discovered a large, and pretty rare Craniopharyngioma tumour on my pituitary gland (in my brain)."
McBriar went on to explain in the post that he was lucky to have caught the disease in the "earlier stages of damage" and that he may have otherwise faced a variety of health issues "due to the size and position of the tumour pressing on [his] optic nerves."
Noting that he had "decided to carry on living life and playing shows as normal and it was personally important to keep my mind busy", the DJ and producer underwent surgery to have the tumour removed last week (9th August) after "many many rounds of hospital appointments and tests", and has now confirmed that the operation went well.
"Recovery will be at least 6-8 weeks and a long road of aftercare but I'm feeling incredibly grateful and lucky," he shared, adding that Andy Ferguson will perform the upcoming CHROMA shows solo while he rests.
"Whilst I am in recovery Andy will be performing upcoming shows as Bicep solo until further notice," he said. "Thanks for understanding."
McBriar also extended "a heartfelt thanks" to friends, family, work colleagues, and NHS staff for their support, adding: "Our healthcare system is very precious and worth fighting for!"
