Rīga's winter market open in Old Town

The Rīga Christmas Market opens on November 28th in Doma Square, and on November 29th, the Rīga Christmas tree will be lit in Rātslaukums Square, according to the market organisers and the Rīga City Council.

The Old Town Christmas Market will offer visitors products made by Latvian artisans and craftspeople, an extensive cultural program, entertainment for the youngest market visitors, and a festive atmosphere. The market will be open until January 4th.

The Old Town Christmas Market is being held for the 25th time, and this year more than 80 home producers will be offering Latvian-made products, food and drinks for visitors to view and purchase.

The Riga Christmas tree, which will mark the beginning of the Christmas season in the capital, will be lit on November 29th at 4:00 p.m. in Rātslaukums Square.

Riga residents are also welcome to attend various First Advent events, including a parade of elves and a mask-making workshop at the Iļģuciems Cultural Centre, the Christmas tree lighting ceremony in the park of the Ziemeļblāzma cultural palace, concerts at the Ave Sol concert hall, St. John's Church in Riga, and the Mazā ģilde cultural and folk art centre. On the first Sunday of Advent, the Christmas garden "12 Holy Nights" will also open in the yard of the Rīga Torņakalns Lutheran Church.
