Gold futures in New York trade 0.1% lower at $4,078.80 a troy ounce as investors await fresh signals that could influence the Federal Reserve's interest-rate decision next month.
"The metal has been treading water in recent sessions, drifting inside a tight $100 corridor between $4,000 and $4,100," says Fawad Razaqzada from Forex.com.
Market watchers now await the delayed producer-price index for September--one of the last inflation readings the Fed sees before its December meeting--retail sales and jobless claims.
