Aldi has confirmed that all of its UK stores will be closed for three days over the Christmas period.

This follows a similar announcement from Home Bargains regarding their festive closures.

The discount supermarket chain, which boasts over 1,050 stores across England, Scotland and Wales, is popular among customers for its wide array of affordable products and its middle aisle featuring ever-changing SpecialBuys.

This week the company confirmed that it would shut its doors on Christmas Day and Boxing Day (December 25 and 26), before reopening shortly afterwards.

An Aldi spokesperson confirmed that shops would recommence trading on Saturday, December 27.

There will also be a closure on New Year's Day (Thursday, January 1), with stores reopening once again on Friday, January 2, 2026.

The decision by executives of the UK's fourth-largest supermarket aligns with previous Christmas plans, giving store colleagues the opportunity to spend time with friends and family.

Opening hours will vary in the days leading up to Christmas, with Aldi operating extended hours to ensure customers can stock up ahead of the big day.

Rebecca Heley, communications director at Aldi UK, stated: "Christmas is a special time, and we want to ensure all of our colleagues have the opportunity to relax and enjoy it with their loved ones.

"That's why all Aldi stores will be closed on Boxing Day this year. We know how hard colleagues work to deliver an amazing Christmas for our customers, and this is one small way of saying thank you."

Several other retailers have already announced similar measures this month, informing both staff and shoppers of their festive arrangements. B&M confirmed it would shut branches on Christmas Day before reopening on Boxing Day.

Meanwhile, Home Bargains revealed on social media that its outlets would remain shut for three consecutive days over the Christmas period. The discount chain will close at 5pm on Christmas Eve and reopen on Saturday, December 27.

The decision was made to give employees both Christmas Day and Boxing Day off to spend with their families. Stores will also remain closed on New Year's Day, Thursday, January 1.

A spokesperson for Home Bargains said: "Our colleagues work incredibly hard throughout the year, and we want to recognise that commitment. As a family-run business, we understand the importance of spending time with family and friends, particularly over the holidays. We're proud to give our teams additional time off to enjoy the festive season."
