Further anti-asylum protests and counter-protests to take place this weekend

Recent weekends have seen demonstrations at hotels in Perth and Falkirk, with a gathering also taking place at a hotel in Aberdeen on Saturday.

This Saturday will see an anti-asylum rally under the banner 'Enough is Enough' take place outside Holyrood, starting at 12.30.

The event is being organised by the group A Force For Good, which is run by former UKIP Scotland organiser Alistair McConnachie.

UKIP refused to renew his membership in 2001 after he engaged in holocaust denial.

A counter-protest has been called by Stand Up to Racism Edinburgh, who are calling for assembly at 11am.

The group said: "The far-right claim to be protecting our communities, but are actually a danger to all of us.

"They pretend to be concerned about housing, but attacking people of colour will not build a single home. People trying to escape war and repression are not the ones putting up energy prices or paying wages that make people dependent on food banks. It is corporations and businesses.

"It is important to say no to racism. It is a nasty dead-end that will make life worse for everyone if allowed to spread."

Protest at the Cladhan Hotel in Falkirk, organised by a group called Save Our Future & Our Kids Futures, will continue on Sunday at 12 noon.

It will be opposed by a rally called by Falkirk Against Racism and Stand Up to Racism from 11am.

In Aberdeen a protest will take place at Marsichal College from 2pm, opposed by the Aberdeen TUC, the Aberdeen Social Centre, the Aberdeen anti-fascist alliance, the CND and the Scottish Palestine Solidarity Campaign.
