The move was set for deliberations in the Ontario Budget on Thursday.
"By permanently capping the provincial gas tax at nine cents per litre in Thursday's Budget, we're ensuring that Bay of Quinte families and businesses have more certainty in uncertain economic times," said Allsopp in an email to The Intelligencer.
"As the U.S. trade tariffs introduce new threats to affordability, our government will help households to stretch their dollars further."
His comments come after Premier Doug Ford held a press conference on Tuesday in Pickering to announce the permanent cap on the tax, noting the move will save families, on average, roughly $115 a year.
Ford said the government is also proposing to remove tolls from the provincially owned Highway 407 East, which is expected to save daily commuters an estimated $7,200 annually.
