Cleveland State Baseball Loses In Extra Innings To Motlow State

Despite Cleveland State Cougars starting pitcher Adam Baker striking out nine batters while allowing just one earned run on three hits over seven innings, Cleveland State (9-12, 5-5) lost in extra innings 6-5 to Motlow State (7-8, 4-6) Friday.

The Cougars were held scoreless for the first six innings with the Bucks starter Elijah Shreeve pitching five frames allowing five hits while striking out three and walking four. Motlow State's rightfielder Baron Ratliff doubled off the left field fence in the fourth inning driving in the game's first two runs.

In the seventh inning third baseman Evan Goins hit a sacrifice fly before first baseman Nelson McKnight drove in another run to tie the ball game.

Each team scored a run in the ninth inning sending the game to extra innings. Then the Bucks and Cougars each scored twice in the 10th, and finally Motlow put a run up in the 11th and Cleveland couldn't answer.

Rightfielder Caleb Gipson doubled for the Cougars only extra base hit in the game. Second baseman Brogan Jones went 2-4 driving in a run and scoring once, while designated hitter Aiden McClary also went 2-4 scoring a run.

The final two games of the series are tomorrow with first pitch of the double header scheduled for 11 a.m.
