A structure fire on Langhorne Road left an elderly woman dead Saturday, the Lynchburg Fire Department said in a social media post.

Fire crews responded to the blaze in the 1500 block of Langhorne Road around 1 p.m., according to the department's Facebook page.

Fire crews discovered smoke coming from the back room of the two-story building and began searching the residence, the post said.

A woman, 92, who was wheelchair-bound, was found in the same room where the fire started and was pronounced dead at the scene, the post said. The name of the victim has not been released.

One firefighter suffered from minor burns and was transported to the hospital for treatment, the post said. The firefighter was expected to be released.

The Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the blaze.
