PTC Web Desk: The Kisan Mazdoor Morcha has planned series of agitations across Punjab against the proposed Electricity Amendment Bill 2025, sale of government land and issues linked to the ongoing Shambhu-Khanauri protest site. The announcement was made during a press conference addressed by farmer leaders Sarwan Singh Pandher and Manjeet Singh Rai in Ludhiana.
According to the morcha, the agitation will begin with a two-hour 'Rail Roko' protest on December 5, highlighting objections to the Electricity Amendment Bill 2025. The leaders warned that if their demands are not addressed, the agitation will intensify.
The protest schedule includes:
November 27: Road blockade on Jalandhar National Highway over unpaid sugarcane dues
December 5: Two-hour "Rail Roko" protest
December 10: Demonstrations against the installation of prepaid electricity meters
December 17-18: Sit-in protests outside all Deputy Commissioner offices in Punjab
December 19 onwards: Statewide indefinite "Rail Roko" movement if no resolution is achieved.
The leaders also raised concerns over the pending sugarcane dues and demanded the Punjab Government fix the procurement rate at Rs 500 per quintal. They demanded immediate release of overdue payments to farmers, warning that delays would result in further road blockades.
Speaking on the confiscated belongings of farmers during the Shambhu-Khanauri agitation, the morcha members alleged government negligence and demanded compensation for the losses.
Pandher and Rai said the protests were necessary to safeguard the rights of farmers and the public, claiming both the Central and Punjab governments had failed to address key agricultural and livelihood issues.
