A bicyclist was struck and seriously injured by a hit-and-driver while riding along a Menifee street, prompting authorities Friday to seek the public's help identifying the motorist.
The collision occurred just before 7 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of Menifee and Triple Crown roads, according to the Menifee Police Department.
Agency spokesman Chase Coburn said the bicyclist, identified only as a 48-year-old Menifee man, was riding northbound on Menifee Road, his back to traffic, when a car steered toward the shoulder and plowed into him.
"The driver failed to remain on scene and fled the area," Coburn said.
Riverside County Fire Department paramedics arrived minutes later and found the victim with "serious but non-life-threatening injuries to his arms and a leg," the police spokesman said.
The bicyclist was taken to a regional trauma center for treatment.
"Investigators are actively attempting to identify and locate the vehicle involved," Coburn said. "It is believed to be a blue sedan and will have front-end collision damage."
Anyone with information was asked to contact the police department's Traffic Unit at 951-723-1566, or 951-723-1500.
