Another Chance at the Northern Lights for the Hudson Valley

If you were like me and somehow missed all the excitement in the night sky last night you are in luck. It looks like Mother Nature is ready to potentially create another light show for those of us who missed out on last night's show.

I had heard over the weekend that the Aurora or Northern lights were coming back but somehow I missed seeing any of the spectacular moments that so many people were able to capture during last night's nature light show. I have shared some of the photos that were sent in below.

According to NOAA and the Space Weather Prediction Center, we are primed again in New York for another amazing light show overnight tonight.

The geomagnetic storm that started yesterday is continuing to bring us perfect conditions to witness the lights.

So what is a geomagnetic storm? I describe it as a space storm that makes the sky look amazing but the Space Weather Prediction Center has a more accurate definition.

It is a major disturbance in the Earth's magnetic field: often varying in intensity between lower, levels and severe storm conditions over the course of the event (via Space Weatther Prediction Center)

Clouds should be heading out overnight which will mean you will get a better look. If you are having trouble seeing them be sure you are looking toward the north and be in a spot with low light pollution. Also, some people find that by using their phone camera lens they can see the colors better, and of course, you can also grab a great picture.

So let's hope the clouds head out and the sky glows green and purple again. The best time to see this is around 11 PM to 1 AM but you can check on this Map for 30-minute updates.
