HENDERSON COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) -- One of the largest gas station chains on the East Coast has opened its first location in Western North Carolina.
On the morning of Aug.15, hundreds were in attendance for a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of Sheetz,a family-owned and operated company that made its name in Pennsylvania.
Located along Asheville Highway, the Fletcher, N.C. location takes its place among the other 125 N.C. Sheetz locations with more on the way, according to Sheetz representatives.

Gas is being offered as low as $2.89 for the next few days. On top of the gas prices, made-to-order food and specialty drinks are offered as well.
With more stores making their way to the area, those with the Sheetz family say they are excited to help grow the Asheville economy.
"Every time we open a new store, we're able to employ a lot more people in the community," said Emily Sheetz, strategy executive vice president of Sheetz.

MountainTrue, Special Olympics and MANNA FoodBank also received donations from Sheetz at the ribbon cutting.
"It's a wonderful experience to be able to do that for a new community like the Asheville region," Sheetz said.
Now that the first location is up and running, the next site will be adjacent to Asheville Regional Airport and is expected to open in late 2025.
