About Town: Street rods, dueling pianos and other things to do in the Quad-Cities this weekend

With the Family: Quad-Cities Street Car Nationals

If you're into cars, take the family to the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds this Friday and Saturday to enjoy the festivities for this inaugural National Street Rod Association (NSRA) event. Located at 2815 W. Locust St. in Davenport, the gates open at 8 a.m. both days. Evening entertainment will feature the Night People from 7 to 10 p.m.

Events will feature the pre-1949 street rods and hot rods, an assorted array of custom-built vehicles, muscle cars and retro-futuristic creations from the 1950s through the mid-1990s. Come for the cars and stay for the food vendors and music from Nick Donovan's Rockin' Road Show. The admission for adults 13 and older is $20, 6 to 12 years is $6 and 5 and under are free.

Sugar a la Mode in Moline is welcoming all sugar junkies to participate in their Desserts after Dark - Waffle Bar this Friday night. With loads of toppings to choose from -- including whipped cream, fruit, candy and syrups -- pick your favorites and enjoy something sweet with friends or family.

The event is from 6 to 8 p.m. at 1603 5th Ave., Moline, and costs $15 per person. Please RSVP on their website, sugaralamode.com, to help them plan for the evening. Coffee, water and tea are available and bring-your-own alcohol is welcome.

Mercado on Fifth is celebrating the birthday of co-founder Bob Ontiveros this Friday in the community he helped to bring together, and you're invited to attend. Bob's Birthday Bash, sponsored by Group O, begins at 5 p.m. with food trucks, live entertainment and activities for children at 5th Avenue and 12th Street in Moline.

Help celebrate with the main act, Sonora Dinamita de Colombia. Admission is $5 for ages 13 and up and free for seniors 65 and up.

On a Date: Windy City Dueling Pianos

The Speakeasy in Rock Island is welcoming back the Windy City Dueling Pianos at 8 p.m. Saturday. Located at 1818 3rd Ave., Rock Island, the performers will battle on stage with songs you, the audience, decide for them to play. It's a fun way to get involved with the show and try something a little different on date night.

The doors open at 7 p.m. and the show begins at 8. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 the day of the show. You must be 18 or older to attend.

Just for Fun: Drag bingo at Tiphanie's

Drag bingo featuring QC Viva La Divas at Tiphanie's could bring all the fun to your life this weekend. Located at 210 E. 2nd St. in Davenport, Tiphanie's will host a 5 p.m. cocktail hour Saturday, followed by drag performances and bingo beginning at 6 p.m.

The performers for this event are Gemini of Manscape QC, Miss Jade, Milange, Justin Thyme and DJ Brendan Skywalker. This event is free to attend, but make sure to bring your dollar bills to tip your performers and servers.
