MCMINNVILLE Ore. (KPTV) - A person is dead and another person is seriously injured after a crash between two pickup trucks on Highway 18 east of McMinnville on Friday, according to the McMinnville Police Department.

At about 3:30 p.m., emergency responders were called to the crash just east of the intersection between Hwy 18 and Norton Lane.

According to an initial investigation, police said the crash happened when a Chevrolet Colorado pickup driving east crossed the center lane and smashed head-on into a GMC Sierra pickup towing a flatbed trailer driving the other way.

Police said the trucks collided offset, with the front passenger side of one smashing into the front passenger side of the other.

The passenger in the Chevrolet died at the scene, and the driver was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.

The GMC driver did not appear to be seriously hurt, but was taken to a nearby hospital for a medical check. They were the only person in the GMC.

Hwy 18 was closed for about three and a half hours, and reopened around 7 p.m.
