76ers hit with major punishment from NBA after Joel Embiid incident

The Philadelphia 76ers earned a big 121-102 win over the Washington Wizards on Tuesday night, improving to 11-9 on the season, with star guard Tyrese Maxey continuing to lead the way.

It's been another frustrating start to the season for superstar center Joel Embiid, who has struggled to stay on the floor consistently due to past and nagging injuries. He's already missed 13 of the 20 games the 76ers have played this season.

Recently, the Sixers and Embiid ran into some trouble. The NBA announced on Tuesday that the organization had been fined $100,000 for violating injury reporting rules, failing to accurately disclose Embiid's game availability prior to the Nov. 30 matchup against the Atlanta Hawks.

Embiid had been listed as "out" on the initial injury report but ended up playing in the game.

Joel Embiid has consistently been one of the best centers in the NBA over the course of his career, but his minutes and games played have steadily declined. At age 31, it's unclear if he'll ever regularly play back-to-back games again.

This season, he's averaging just 24.3 minutes per game -- a career low -- while putting up 19.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.1 assists, shooting 45.5% from the field, 29.0% from three, and 81.4% from the free-throw line.

The 76ers are currently in ninth place in the Eastern Conference and will return to action on Thursday night when they host the Golden State Warriors. Embiid's status remains uncertain, as he is listed as day-to-day.
