I'm a Celebrity camp set to be infested with parasites in a matter of days after camp evacuation - Daily Star

The I'm a Celebrity Camp could be hit with a host of unwanted visitors in a matter of days - leaving campmates at risk. This comes after the camp was evacuated overnight.

Today (November 24) the camp was struck by a horror storm, which left show bosses forced to implement an emergency plan and urgently shelter the celebs amid giant hailstones and lightning. While it appears that the immediate chaos soon passed, another unexpected side affect could be due in just days.

An insider revealed that the wet conditions will see an influx of leeches set to hammer camp mood even more.

These creatures - considered parasites - can cause potential for infection, prolonged bleeding, and, in rare cases, a dangerous airway blockage. While the bites seem mostly harmless, they can transmit bacteria and viruses, leading to infection at the bite site.

The insider said: "It's going to be very grim indeed. The wet weather always brings out the leeches, plus a whole host of other biting insects too. After what has seemed quite a harmonious camp, we expect it to get a little fraught from now on."

Queensland Bureau of Meteorology had yesterday issued a warning of what it described as a "very dangerous storm" to hit the area where the celebrities are based.

The report detailed that the thunderstorm was producing "large to giant hailstones, damaging and destructive winds and heavy rainfall causing flash flooding."

The campmates were ushered into the Bush Telegraph where they huddled together for an hour while the worst of it passed.

While they were rejoiced to miss the worst, their nightmare could continue over the next few days - with the site left soaking.

Insiders said the camp was left "drenched" and that filming was delayed by up to three hours. The campmates' belongings were all soaked, and they spent Monday afternoon trying to use the campfire to dry everything.

It is not yet known whether the evacuation scenes will be aired, but the source did add that these measures are only carried out in extreme circumstances.

A show source said: "Our health and safety weather contingencies kicked in and we evacuated the celebrities immediately to the Bush Telegraph until the storm passed and it was safe to return to camp."

Behind the scene bosses have highly advanced weather tracking systems where they can monitor storms and will be sure to keep their eye on the worst of it.

Last year was also affected with the camp being hit by record rainfall and suffering flooding. It was similarly evacuated at one point.
