It is with love that we announce the passing of our father, Robert 'Bob' Edward Charlton on Thursday, October 2, 2025 at the Red Deer Regional Hospital at the age of 88 years. Bob will be missed by children Cathy (Allan) and Richard (Tara), grandchildren Claire, Alec, Liam, and Merrick, sister Jill, and sister-in-law Anne. He was pre-deceased by his wife Laurel. Bob grew up in Norfolk County, England with his mother Freida Bessie, father Edward, brother Peter, and sister Jill. He loved land and agriculture. After earning his National Diploma of Agriculture at 17, Bob travelled to Denmark to work on a farm. At 19 he came to Canada to work initially as a ranch hand near Innisfail and later as a seismograph surveyor for Shell. In 1960, he transferred to Australia where he met his future wife, Laurel, who was a Canadian on a working holiday. In 1962 the two returned to Canada, got married in Toronto in 1963, and moved west to Calgary in 1964. Bob and Laurel settled in Red Deer in 1965.
Bob became a territory manager for Swift, Gainers, Parish and Heinbacker, and New Life Feeds from 1965 until 1998. He worked in Central Alberta from Rocky Mountain House to the Saskatchewan border. Bob continued as a part-time consultant until 2002. Bob loved travelling to different landscapes, mountains, oceansides, and through agricultural land. He enjoyed many memorable trips with his family in Canada, the U.S., and Great Britain throughout his lifetime. He especially loved his many trips to Hawaii and the Oregon coast.
We are grateful for the good care he received at the Red Deer Hospital. If desired, Memorial Donations in Bob's honor may be made directly to the Red Deer Regional Health Foundation at www.rdrhfoundation.com.
