Ireland has been named in a list of the top ten countries in the world where housing is the least affordable.
The findings were revealed in Expat Insider, an annual, large-scale survey carried out by the global InterNations network, which collates data from expats on their experiences of living and working abroad.
The 12th edition of Expat Insider saw more than 10,000 expats across 172 nations giving their views on all things living abroad, with Ireland ranking the worst for affordable housing.
A video revealing the top ten countries where housing is NOT affordable was shared via their social media platforms with Ireland taking the top spot (for the third year in a row!), followed by Luxembourg, Singapore, The Netherlands and Australia.
The UK came in at number six and was followed by Canada, Switzerland, Turkey and Germany.
InterNations explained that housing markets face significant pressures when the destination is deemed attractive for people to move to.
They said: 'This is definitely the case in these countries, where finding affordable housing gets tougher each year.
'According to feedback from our expat members, these destinations rank among the worst when it comes to housing costs.'
The post was met with much reaction from those living and from Ireland, with many hitting out at the Government and the 'thousands of empty buildings rotting away.'
One wrote: 'Ireland has literally thousands of empty buildings just rotting away. The government do zero to change this problem. I know as I see this on a daily basis.'
Another responded: 'I see so many empty office space buildings everywhere in and around Dublin. It's so weird.'
A third joked: 'I'm so proud, gwan Ireland. Let's make it four years.'
A fourth shared: 'Ireland might be true cause I was looking at apartments the other day to rent and the cheapest one like €1500 - €3500 a month.'
