Noel Gallagher says it was a 'pleasure' as he joins tributes to Gary 'Mani' Mounfield - Manchester Evening News

Noel Gallagher has joined the tributes to Gary 'Mani' Mounfield following the Stone Roses and Primal Scream bassist's sudden death. Mani, 63, died at home in the Heatons, Stockport on Thursday.

Following his death tributes flooded from across the music world. Sharing a picture of his long-time friend on X, Noel wrote on X: "RIP Brother. It was a pleasure to have known you."

It follows his brother Liam's own tribute to Failsworth-raised Mani. The frontman wrote: "In total shock and absolutely devastated on hearing the news about Mani, MY HERO, RIPD RKID LG."

Liam and Mani were last photographed together at the funeral of boxer Ricky Hatton in October. Fellow Oasis bandmate, Paul 'Bonehead' Arthurs wrote: "RIP Mani. x."

Oasis play the last two gigs of their comeback tour in Sao Paulo, Brazil tonight and tomorrow. It's expected the band will share a special tribute or dedication to the Mani, like they did for Ricky Hatton and Diogo Jota earlier in the tour.

Mani, originally from Crumpsall in Manchester, joined The Stone Roses in the 1980s and played on both the band's seminal, self-titled debut album and its long-awaited follow-up Second Coming. When the Roses disbanded in 1996 he joined Primal Scream. In 2011, he announced that he had left Bobby Gillespie and co to reform the Stone Roses.

His death was announced almost two years to the day his wife Imelda died of cancer, aged 52. The couple shared twin boys, Gene and George, 12.
