As Longhorns basketball looks to add to its 2026 class, it got encouraging news regarding Maximo Adams this week. On Tuesday, the top-30 recruit narrowed his list down to 11 teams and included Texas. It was an encouraging update for Sean Miller and his coaching staff as they look to turn the program around by bringing in elite talent.
While the Longhorns hope to add Adams to the mix, they do face competition. The other programs on Adams' list are Kansas, Kentucky, Purdue, North Carolina, Michigan State, USC, Illinois, Duke, and Arizona State. Any of those programs would get a significant boost by having Adams in their starting lineup.
Although Texas will have to battle with some of the top programs in the nation, the heavy interest comes as no surprise. Currently, the Sierra Canyon High School product is ranked as the 25th best player in his class by 247Sports. They also rank Adams as the 11th-best small forward and sixth best player from California.
Even though Adams has had a lot of offers to weigh, he already knows what he is looking for at the college level.
"I'm looking for a brotherhood," Adams told Rivals' Joe Tipton. "I want to go to a school where I trust the coach and have a good relationship with the coach. A school where I can just play and feel comfortable. I can fit into any type of playstyle, so I won't be looking as much at a style. I will look at their plan for me."
Over the next few months, Texas will be a program to watch. Adams has already set visits with Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan State, North Carolina, and Texas. When Adams is on Campus, Miller will have the chance to show him why Austin is where he should spend his college days. If he can make an offer that Adams can't refuse, the Longhorns will be a tough team to face in 2026.
