Finnish games firm Remedy Entertainment has reported a 63.5 per cent increase in revenue for the second quarter of its financial year.
The company brought in €16.9 million ($19.6 million) for the period, driven by increased games sales and royalties while development costs went down. CEO Tero Virtala (pictured) said that the rise in game sales came from the newly-released FBC: Firebreak - this includes minimum guarantees from Microsoft and PlayStation subscription services.
In terms of Firebreak, Virtala said that despite the game being a technical success, it hasn't met expectations, particularly on Steam. The exec said that the majority of players were on PlayStation and Xbox, while Valve's platform did not deliver results. However, Remedy is planning to improve the game over time.
"FBC: Firebreak was designed as a game that evolves over time. Despite the rocky launch, we believe we have a solid game to build on. Players who spent over an hour with the game reviewed the game mostly positive - showing us that the core experience of the game is entertaining. We have already rolled out patches and communicated on how the game will continue to develop."
