Former Kentucky star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander off to historic start for Thunder

The defending NBA MVP has picked up right where he left off last season.

Former Kentucky Wildcat and Oklahoma City Thunder superstar guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has been unstoppable through his first 2 games of the 2025-26 season. The Thunder have played 2 games so far, winning both in double overtime.

During Thursday night's 141-135 win over the Indiana Pacers, Gilgeous-Alexander scored a career-best 55 points on 15-of-31 shooting from the field. He connected on 23 of his 26 free throws in the win.

Through his first 2 games, SGA has played 92 total minutes and scored 90 points.

In NBA history, only Wilt Chamberlain (106, 105), Anthony Davis (95), and Michael Jordan (91) have scored more points through the first 2 games of a season. Chamberlain cracked 100 points to open back-to-back seasons in the 1960s.

Gilgeous Alexander also has 13 rebounds, 10 assists, 3 blocks, and 4 steals against just 5 turnovers in his team's first 2 games. He is 33-for-40 (82.5%) from the free throw line and 27-of-57 (47.4%) from the field.

The Thunder play Atlanta on the road on Saturday.
