MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio -- A Crestwood Road resident reported a possible burglary at a neighbor's house at 11:15 p.m. Aug. 9 involving two male and two female suspects who had arrived in a pickup truck.
Responding officers detained all the suspects outside the home.
They found a broken glass panel on a rear door and, when they entered the vacant home, they found water spraying out from several broken pipes in the walls.
They also found cut carpeting and walls vandalized with spray paint, later noticing that one of the suspects had fresh paint on her hands.
The phrase, "happen when no pay" was spray-painted on one wall.
One of the suspects said they were there to work on the home. He said they had been hired by a general contractor, but had not received payment.
He could not explain why they were there so late at night.
All of the suspects were arrested and charged with vandalism and burglary.
Among them were a mother and juvenile daughter from Ecuador, a Ravenna man, 45, and a 59-year-old North Carolina man.
ICE agents were later notified of the incident and of those involved.
The company that owns the home later said that many of their homes had been vandalized in a similar manner.
