It was a clean Penticton sweep in the Central Okanagan.

Four Penticton Minor Lacrosse Association (PMLA) teams returned home last weekend with first-place finishes in their respective divisions (U11, U13, U15 and U18) at the Zone Championships in Kelowna.

PMLA president Kate Trahan reacted to the local feats by calling it "a historic weekend."

"This is an exciting time for lacrosse in our region," Trahan said of the Nov. 2 victories. "Having all age groups bring home the zone trophies shows how dedicated our board, coaches, players and families are."

Following their triumphs in Kelowna, the local teams have turned their attention to the provincial championships in February.

But the road ahead is set to come with challenges due to limited indoor practice space in the winter months, Trahan explained.

She said PMLA's only weekly time to practice will be from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sundays, from now until provincials, at the King's Park Sportsplex turf.

"Despite these hurdles, the spirit of Penticton lacrosse remains strong," Trahan stated. "The association's success at zones is proof of what can be accomplished when a community comes together."

PLMA has teams for both field and box lacrosse. It welcomes youth athletes from across the South Okanagan and Similkameen, playing under the Penticton Heat banner.
