As part of the productive workday dedicated to national food security and sovereignty, the Mercal supply center, located in the Robinsoniana Simón Rodríguez commune in Maracay, reopened its doors this Wednesday.
The food distribution center, which will serve more than 7 families in 14 sectors, was reopened by the governor of Aragua, Joana Sánchez, and the Minister of Communes, Ángel Prado, through a meeting with President Nicolás Maduro.
The regional leader reported that this is the 16th mercal to be reactivated in the state, in an effort to strengthen the local economy and food sovereignty, as part of the first phase of the 1 Transformations Homeland Plan.
He also highlighted that they are working on reorganizing Aragua's productive regions to contribute to the Gross Domestic Product, highlighting the agricultural potential of the state's south.
For his part, Minister Ángel Prado emphasized that the distribution center offers meat products, delicatessen products, groceries, and vegetables at affordable prices, thanks to the work of local producers. He also emphasized that the center has been fully renovated.
Finally, Prado reported that they will work on developing productive projects in southern Aragua, through agreements with municipalities to encourage investment and generate a community-based productive system.
