Hawaii softball coach Panita Thanatharn announced the signing of three transfers, including two from the 50th state, for the 2026 season on Wednesday.

The players are Rhea Furtado (Kapaa/Cal State Northridge), Taryn Irimata (Campbell/Nevada) and Hannah Pitts (Mercer).

Furtado, a 5-foot-2 utility player, batted .143 (3-for-21) with nine runs in 40 games as a freshman last season with CSUN.

Irimata, a 5-7 right-handed pitcher, appeared in four games and went 3-0 with a 3.75 ERA over 18 2/3 innings as a Nevada freshman in 2024. She sat out last season with an injury. Irimata was named Honolulu Star-Advertiser Pitcher of the Year as a Sabers senior in 2023.

Pitts, is a 5-8 right-handed pitcher, from Auburn High in Alabama. She appeared in 86 games with a 3.82 ERA over 388 2/3 innings in four seasons with Mercer. Pitts will have one season of eligibility remaining.

The Rainbow Wahine now have seven signees for the 2026 season.

Thanatharn was hired in June to replace Bob Coolen, who retired after 34 seasons as coach.

UH sailors place 5 on All-Academic team

The Hawaii sailing team placed five student-athletes on the Intercollegiate Sailing Association All-Academic Team, announced Wednesday.

Vivian Bonsager, Malia Johnson, Erik Anderson, Amanda Turner and Morgan Carew were honored.

The ICSA All-Academic Sailing Team recognizes juniors and seniors who participated in at least seven regattas during the season and maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher.

Wieland, Ryan claim Roughwater Swim

Duke Wieland and Suzanne Ryan won the Waikiki Roughwater Swim from Kaimana Beach to Duke Kahanamoku Beach on Monday.

Wieland completed the 2.4-mile course in 43 minutes, 54 seconds and Ryan crossed in 45:50.

In the men's division, Ned Wieland finished second in 44:26 and Thomas Rathbun was third in 44:39.

In the women's division, Kona Flanagan placed second in 46:11 and Brooke Bennett came in third in 46:53.

More than 800 swimmers competed in the 54th edition of the race.
