Reeths-Puffer bowling standout voted MLive Muskegon Athlete of the Week

MUSKEGON, MI - The Reeths-Puffer boys bowling team captured the Greater Muskegon Athletic Association city championship last week and finished runner-up in the O-K Green Conference.

One of the top performers for the Rockets during their critical stretch of the season was Tanner Bahr. The junior athlete rolled a 439 series to finish third overall at the GMAA city tournament and helped Reeths-Puffer capture the team championship. He also rolled a 3-game series of 547 at the O-K Green Conference tournament to help the Rockets to a second-team overall finish.

Bahr also finished 10th overall at the Division 2 individual regionals on Friday morning, as he rolled a six-game series of 1,162 with scores of 203, 172, 191, 190, 185, and 221. Unfortunately for Bahr, the 10th-place finish wasn't enough to help him advance to the state finals but his performance wasn't unnoticed by the readers of MLive and the Muskegon Chronicle.

The boys bowling standout earned more than 92 percent of the total votes cast in this week's poll to help him pick up the MLive Muskegon Athlete of the Week award.

Grand Haven girls basketball standout Gillian Sorrelle finished runner-up with four percent of the total votes. Sorrelle was nominated after she scored 22 points and dished out three assists in a win over Grandville.

Reeths-Puffer boys wrestling standout Ian Cook finished third overall in the voting process after he won an individual regional championship at 144 pounds to improve to 48-0 overall this season.

Reeths-Puffer hockey standout Hayden Taylor finished fourth overall after he scored two goals and two assists in a 6-0 win over Kenowa Hills.

Whitehall boys basketball standout Cam Thompson rounded out the Top 5 vote-getters this week after he finished with 22 points, eight rebounds, six steals, four assists and two blocks in a win over Fremont. He also added 23 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, and four steals against Manistee and recorded 26 points, 17 rebounds, four assists, three steals, and two blocks against Allendale.
