She defeated second seed Kiley King of Jerseyville for the sectional title 6-2, 6-0 and reached her first state meet, winning a match in the championship bracket before finishing 1-2 in the tournament.
Sheehan put together some positive results throughout her senior season. She placed second in the No. 1 singles draw at the Central Illinois Invite and took third at the CS8 meet.
She finished the season 19-9.
The junior's improvement helped her spend some weeks as the top singles player on Glenwood's roster.
Surges started the season with an 11-0 record and had a signature win in a dual meet at Chatham over Rochester's Julia Musgrave, the 2023 All-Area Player of the Year. After her second-place finish at conference, Surges, playing as a sixth seed, mustered a 6-7 (1), 6-0, 6-3 win over No. 4 Toby Hawkes of Collinsville and advanced to the sectional semifinals, earning her a berth to state.
She settled for third place at the sectional after beating Spihlman, who retired in the third set. Surges went 0-2 at state and ended with a 24-7 record and accumulated a 12-3 mark in the No. 1 doubles spot primarily with teammate Lydia Ryherd.
The sophomores won a three-set tiebreaker and took fifth place in the CS8 conference doubles draw as the Crimsons posted their best outcome in recent years with a fourth-place finish and 15½ points.
Range and White got to the quarterfinals of the 1A Jacksonville Sectional but fell short of making a state appearance with a three-set loss to SHG's Lucia Hassebrock and Catalina Mosquera.
The duo finished 20-12.
Musgrave, one of the top singles players, concentrated on doubles with Haupt during the championship season and the pair produced a third-place finish at conference and a second place showing at the 1A Jacksonville Sectional.
The finish at the sectional earned the Rochester duo a spot at state, but the senior Musgrave had an illness, and she was replaced by sophomore Molly Eichholz. Haupt, a junior, and Eichholz lost to the No. 1 seed in the first round at state and finished the tournament 0-2.
Musgrave and Haupt ended the season 13-9.
As the fifth seed, the duo also played a role in SHG's sectional title at Jacksonville. Hassebrock, a sophomore, and the freshman Mosquera got to the semifinals and eventually finished fourth to earn a spot in the 1A state finals.
They finished state with a 1-2 record, winning a consolation match. Once the tandem settled in as a team in early October, they took fourth place at the CS8 meet and finished the season with an overall 9-6 mark.
They earned a sixth-place finish at the CS8 meet and had an overall record of 7-7.
