Chelsea were held to a 2-2 draw by Qarabag in an away match in Azerbaijan on Wednesday evening.
Estevao Willian opened the scoring for the Blues in Baku with a well-taken finish, assisted by his fellow Brazilian Andrey Santos. However, Qarabag managed to equalise later in the first half when Leandro Andrade capitalised on some sloppy defending to score off a rebound from Camilo Duran's shot that hit the post.
Qarabag then took the lead with Marko Jankovic converting a penalty after Jorrel Hato handled the ball in his own box. Early in the second half, Chelsea found an equaliser through Alejandro Garnacho, who made an immediate impact with one of his first touches.
Here, the Daily Star Sport rates the Chelsea players out of 10 based on their performance.
Robert Sanchez - 6
Made his second Champions League appearance of the season. Couldn't do much about the goals.
Reece James - 6
Started at right-back for the Blues. Faced a real challenge against several dangerous Qarabag attackers. However, James held his own in one-on-one battles.
Tosin Adarabioyo - 5
Returned to the side in Baku but caught out for the equalising goal. It wasn't entirely his fault as he shouldn't have been put in that position in the first place. His performance was neither terrible nor great on the night.
Jorrel Hato - 3
A rare chance to see the Dutchman in the centre-back position. He was caught out by a long ball and ended up grappling with Duran.
The Qarabag forward got the better of Hato, who was too weak, leading to an equalising goal for the hosts. He needs to be stronger in such situations. Moments later, he was at fault again, losing possession and then handling the ball, resulting in a penalty for Qarabag.
Marc Cucurella - 6
He made a vital interception in his own six-yard box in the first half, preventing a significant opportunity for Qarabag. Excellent game awareness from Cucurella.
Romeo Lavia - N/A
Back in the team after a brief cameo at Tottenham, but his night was cut short within five minutes. He pulled up early and was substituted for Moises Caicedo.
Andrey Santos - 6
Following his standout performance at Wolves a week ago, Santos was given a starting spot in Baku. Another assist for the Brazilian, setting up his fellow countryman Estevao to give the Blues an early lead. Substituted at half-time.
Estevao Willian - 7
His second start in the Champions League resulted in his second consecutive goal - a superb finish after being set up by Santos.
Estevao is getting better with each match. Three goals in his last three starts. What else does the 18-year-old need to do to secure a starting spot in the Premier League?
Joao Pedro - 5
Perhaps the most unexpected inclusion in the starting XI due to his recent fitness issues. He played a key role in Estevao's goal, dropping deep and delivering a first-time pass to Santos. However, he could benefit from being more assertive in front of goal.
Jamie Gittens - 5
Earned his start after some impressive recent performances. He started brightly and was involved in many of Chelsea's best moments.
However, Gittens will be disappointed with his final product, which was the only aspect of his game that let him down on the night. Substituted at half-time.
Tyrique George - 5
George led the line for the Blues in Baku. It was a relatively quiet evening for him, with few opportunities to score. He was substituted at half-time.
Subs:
Moises Caicedo (on for Lavia 8') - 6
Brought on much earlier than anticipated. Almost made an immediate impact with his first touch, but his long-range shot went over the bar. He battled hard throughout.
Enzo Fernandez (on for Santos 46') - 6
Introduced at half-time. He immediately looked lively and was involved in several attacking moves for the visitors. However, his performance faded as the second half progressed.
Liam Delap (on for George 46') - 6
Had a point to prove following his red card last week. Demonstrated excellent centre-forward play on the halfway line to find Garnacho, who finished superbly. Made some excellent off-the-ball runs, but his teammates are not yet fully attuned to Delap's movements.
Alejandro Garnacho (on for Gittens 46') - 7
Garnacho made an immediate impact with a fantastic left-footed finish from a tight angle, thanks to Delap's assist.
Facundo Buonanotte (substituted for Joao Pedro at 71') - 5
He came on and took up the No. 10 role but couldn't make much of a difference in Azerbaijan. He narrowly missed with a decent strike at 85 minutes.
