INNES Senior has described the arrival of a new addition to the Leopards' den as a "really smart signing."
And he's not talking about himself but former Castleford teammate Liam Horne!
Senior, Horne and half back Adam Cook are Leigh's most recent recruits as head coach Adrian Lam refreshes last season's successful squad.
"He is so full of energy," says Senior of the 27-year-old Papua New Guinean star.
"And one of the players at Castleford who would always go defensively with intent.
"You bring (Edwin) Ipape off and you have Horney replacing him. It is a scary thought.
"He has the same sort of energy as Ipape has. He is a really smart signing and will fit into what Leigh have already done.
"They are one of those teams with aggressive line speed and Horney will definitely fit into that mould."
Horne and Cook-from Canberra Raiders-have agreed three-year deals.
Senior, recovered now from a season ending ankle injury in 2025, is certainly excited by his move across the Pennines.
Having seen the strides made by new England international and former Huddersfield Giants teammate, Owen Trout, he's keen to enjoy a similar career trajectory.
Trout made his debut in last weekend's 26-6 first Test defeat to Australia at Wembley and expected to keep his place for Saturday's make or break second Test at Everton's Hill Dickinson Stadium.
"At the time, I thought it was strange Huddersfield let him go because Owen was killing it.
"But he has improved on that since he's been at Leigh. He is one of the best props in England and everyone could see he was one of our better middles against Australia.
"I just hope I can replicate what he has done by coming over and improving my game."
Senior hasn't given up ambitions of resurrecting his own international career. He last played for Ireland at the 2021 World Cup alongside now Leigh pals, Robbie Mulhern, Frankie Halton and Keanan Brand.
"I would have considered playing for them this year if it wasn't for my ankle injury," he explained. "So, it is definitely something I would think of doing again in the future."
Senior's main focus, however, is challenging Josh Charnley for a starting berth next year.
"I have got a great player to compete against and that will bring the best out of me. I will have to up my game and try to force someone out in the nicest possible way.
"That's the essence of sport, you get better by competing with other top players."
Lachlan Lam skippered Papua New Guinea to a 40-28 victory over the Cook Islands in the Pacific Bowl; a match also featuring Leigh teammates, Ipape, Jacob Alick-Wiencke and Horne.
The Kumuls face Fiji in Port Moresby this weekend with the winners promoted to the Pacific Championship.
