Orioles call up outfielder Dylan Beavers, team’s No. 3 prospect

The Baltimore Orioles announced Saturday that they have selected the contract of outfield prospect Dylan Beavers.

Beavers, 24, was selected by the Orioles 33rd overall out of the University of California, Berkeley in the 2022 Major League Baseball draft. He is the team's No. 1 outfield prospect and No. 3 on the club overall.

The move comes at a time when injuries and last month's trade deadline have left the Orioles thin at the outfield position.

The team traded outfielders Cedric Mullins to the New York Mets and Ramón Laureano to the San Diego Padres. Outfielders Colton Cowser and Tyler O'Neill are also out of action for the time being due to injuries.

During his time at Triple-A Norfolk this season, Beavers had a 3.04 batting average with 104 hits, 51 runs batted in and 18 home runs. He also didn't have a problem with getting into scoring position, notching 23 stolen bases this year.

Beavers will wear No. 12, and make his MLB debut Saturday night when the team is in Houston to play the Astros.

In other roster moves, the Orioles designated outfielder Greg Allen for assignment.
