Tesla (TSLA, Financials) secured showroom locations in New Delhi and Mumbai as it moves ahead with plans to enter the Indian market.
With no imminent plans for service facilities, the developer of electric cars is concentrating on retail environments.
Tesla has chosen a location in the Aerocity region of New Delhi, a commercial center close to the international airport that contains corporate offices, hotels, and retail stores. The firm has decided on a site in Bandra Kurla Complex, a big commercial and retail area close to the airport in Mumbai. Every showroom is supposed to be around 5,000 square feet (464.52 square meters).
For its operations in India, Tesla has also started recruiting; it has posted job ads for 13 mid-level positions including store and customer relations managers.
The company's arrival into India coincides with government obstacles like hefty import taxes on electric cars. India levies almost perfect import taxes, a policy Tesla has attacked. Citing rivalry, domestic manufacturers have also rebelled against Tesla's entrance. Leaders from both nations have agreed to pursue a trade agreement that would affect auto taxes, therefore addressing the problem via U.S.-India trade negotiations.
Originally postponing its intentions for development in India until 2022, Tesla began its hunt for showroom space in late 2023. Though it has not yet stated the opening date for the additional sites, the firm keeps advancing with its market launch.
