The family of Dr. Clive Kileff, professor emeritus, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, is deeply saddened to announce the passing of their loved one on January 3, 2025, in Florida, at age 82.
He is survived by his wife, Martha B. Lee, his sister, Sonja DeLloyd, his brother, Brian Kileff, his children Lara Kileff Fugatt, husband Steven Fugatt and Peter D. Kileff, wife Christa Kileff as well as grand- children and nieces and nephews.
Born in Zimbabwe, Africa, of European ancestry that valued formal education, Clive came to the United States at age 21 to attend Harvard University. Graduating with honors, he continued formal studies and research at Rice University to receive the Ph.D.
In 1970 Dr. Kileff joined the UTC faculty in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Geography. For three decades he taught courses in Anthropology and continued research of African cultures, arts, and crafts. He wrote five books and many peer-reviewed articles. Consequently, civic groups often welcomed him as a guest speaker or valued member.
An ardent athlete throughout life, believer in exercise, Wimbledon competitor, and Boston marathon finisher, he won numerous tennis awards and convinced many friends and colleagues to join him in regular social running.
A Celebration of Life will be held to honor Clive at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 24, at The Heritage Landing Clubhouse, at 1100 Heritage Landing Drive.
